Season’s Greetings! American Christmas Tree Association 2023 Polling Shows Strong Demand for Christmas Trees and Décor this Season
2023 polling conducted by the American Christmas Tree Association shows that, despite inflation concerns, 94 percent of consumers plan to display at least one Christmas tree this season
October 10, 2023 –To kick off the Christmas season, the American Christmas Tree Association (ACTA) released its 2023 report on Christmas purchasing and display trends.
Using data captured in 2023 consumer polling conducted by Dynata, ACTA found that despite 78 percent of consumers expressing concern about inflation, 94 percent of consumers surveyed plan to display at least one Christmas tree in their homes this season.
“We are encouraged to see that consumer demand for all types of Christmas trees remains high in 2023,” said Jami Warner, ACTA Executive Director. “Artificial, live, small, tall, flocked, you name it – there’s no such thing as a bad Christmas tree, and there is no better way to bring cheer to the Christmas season than by celebrating with a Christmas tree.”
Of the 94 percent of consumers displaying at least one Christmas tree this year, nearly 77 percent will display an artificial tree.
When asked what they appreciated most about displaying an artificial Christmas tree, 65 percent of consumers listed easy set-up and take-down, 65 percent listed consistent appearance, and 49 percent listed easy maintenance as primary reasons for purchasing an artificial Christmas tree. 56 percent of artificial Christmas tree owners also feel there are long-term cost savings when owning an artificial Christmas tree.
Approximately 23 percent of surveyed consumers will display a live Christmas tree this year.
“When it comes to choosing a Christmas tree this year, consumers should consider what tree best fits their needs and traditions,” said Warner. “We hope that by evaluating what tree works best for them and shopping early, every consumer will find the type and style of tree they are looking for.”
Of those respondents who expressed concern over inflation, 74 percent started purchasing their holiday décor before September. Of that 74 percent, 30 percent start purchasing Christmas décor before Halloween.
“We always recommend that consumers shop early to get ahead of the holiday rush and find the décor, type, and style of Christmas tree that best fits their needs,” said Warner. “This year, we’re seeing many consumers – especially those concerned about inflation – purchasing their décor well before the typical shopping seasons of November and December.”
