Ninety-Four Million U.S. Households Will Celebrate The Holidays With at Least One Christmas Tree
LOS ANGELES – DECEMBER 10, 2020
Seventy-five percent of U.S. households, or nearly 94 million, will display a Christmas tree in their home for the 2020 holiday season, according to the 10th annual Christmas tree survey from the American Christmas Tree Association (ACTA) conducted by Nielsen.
Eighty-five percent of those Christmas trees displayed are artificial trees and 15 percent are real.
“ACTA is happy to report that the Christmas tree continues to be a treasured holiday symbol and tradition across the country, especially during this very challenging year,” said Jami Warner, Executive Director of ACTA.
“We are particularly fortunate to represent an industry that brings so much happiness into the home, especially this year when so many people will be separated from their families,” Warner said.
“The number of U.S. households displaying more than one Christmas tree has increased by 10 percent over the last several years,” said Warner. “This is a strong indicator that the Christmas tree, both real and artificial, has become much more than the centerpiece of the holiday, it’s an integral part of the holiday DNA that reaches beyond the living room,” she added.
“With so many Christmas tree choices, colors, sizes, species, shapes and price points, it’s so much fun for families to incorporate Christmas trees into every part of the home and into outdoor holiday decorations,” Warner said.
“The Christmas tree you choose, be it real, artificial, fun or traditional, is a personal preference. There is no wrong choice when it comes to your Christmas tree,” she added.
Methodology: American Christmas Tree Association insights are based on data collected by Nielsen through an English Language PanelViews Survey sent to a representative subset of U.S. households in the Homescan Panel; results are projected to represent total U.S. households. The survey was fielded in November 2020.
